Product Overview

The MAX188BCWP+ from Maxim Integrated Products is a low power, 8 channel, serial 12bit analogue to digital converter in 20 pin WSOIC package. It is a 12bit data acquisition system that combines an 8 channel multiplexer, high bandwidth track/hold and serial interface together with high conversion speed and ultralow power consumption. The 4 wire serial interface directly connects to SPI, QSPI and MICROWIRE devices without external logic. A serial strobe output allows direct connection to TMS320 family digital signal processors. It uses either the internal clock or an external serial interface clock to perform successive approximation A/D conversions. The serial interface can operate beyond 4MHz when internal clock is used. It provides a hard wired active-low SHDN pin and two software selectable power down modes. It is used in portable data logging, data acquisition, high accuracy process control, automatic testing, robotics, battery powered instruments and medical instruments.

  • Analogue inputs are software configurable for unipolar/bipolar, single ended/differential operation
  • Single +5V or ±5V operation, ±1LSB differential nonlinearity, 0°C to 70°C operating temperature
  • Low power of 1.5mA in operating mode and 2µA in power down mode
  • Reference buffer amplifier simplifies gain trim, requires an external reference
  • Sampling rate is 133KSPS, relative accuracy is ±0.5LSB, full power bandwidth is 800KHz
  • Offset error is ±3.0LSB, gain error is ±2.0LSB, small signal bandwidth is 4.5MHz
  • Total harmonic distortion is -80dB
